lyrics
Summer birds roost in the trees
And the cat looks like she could eat them all.
And the sunset portends a dusty fall;
We gather here to try to save it.
For when the summer moon sets
And another day goes by.
When the temperature drops
And the green leaves turn.
When the crickets sing
Of colder days to arrive;
We line up under the sun
And shield our eyes.
We line up for the fair
Where the postcards go for
10 cents each.
Where the summer birds
Chirp in the trees;
Where we eat sugared things
And bring bumblebees.
Because the next place we move to
Will be more expensive
Than where we are now.
And gray hairs sprout
From our beanie heads.
To put a stop to this
We line up at the gate.
And sing a song
For the chicken fair.
As we walk through the barn
The rabbits stare with
Mournful eyes.
They've seen the feet of their elders
Turned into charms
For passing whims.
So we hope for the best
And wait for colder days to arrive.
We line up under the sun
And shield our eyes.
To put a stop to this
We line up at the gate.
And sing a song
For the chicken fair.
