Weighted Air 03:29
And nothing comes to something Comes from nothing, this I see. In front of me it's waiting time To find what's planted growing. Just flying high through Weighted Air I look to see what's down below It's a city, it's a town I guess that's where their money goes. I guess that's where their money goes. And if I touched that seashore wave I'm sure that maybe I would drown I'd lose my pocket change to ride That seahorse or that monster clown. Just flying high through weighted air. I look to see what's down below - It's a city, it's a town. I guess that's where their money goes. I guess that's where their money goes. And if I touched that seashore wave I'm sure that maybe I would drown I'd lose my pocket change to ride That seahorse or that monster clown. And nothing comes to something Comes from nothing, this I see. In front of me it's waiting time To find what's planted growing.

Summer birds roost in the trees And the cat looks like she could eat them all. And the sunset portends a dusty fall; We gather here to try to save it. For when the summer moon sets And another day goes by. When the temperature drops And the green leaves turn. When the crickets sing Of colder days to arrive; We line up under the sun And shield our eyes. We line up for the fair Where the postcards go for 10 cents each. Where the summer birds Chirp in the trees; Where we eat sugared things And bring bumblebees. Because the next place we move to Will be more expensive Than where we are now. And gray hairs sprout From our beanie heads. To put a stop to this We line up at the gate. And sing a song For the chicken fair. As we walk through the barn The rabbits stare with Mournful eyes. They've seen the feet of their elders Turned into charms For passing whims. So we hope for the best And wait for colder days to arrive. We line up under the sun And shield our eyes. To put a stop to this We line up at the gate. And sing a song For the chicken fair. Doo doo doo doo doo doo, doo dee doo dee doo ....

The chiming of the west wind The changing of the guard. You spent a lot of worry It's not the kind you want. It's seems to me There is something colliding But it's nothing good To spend all your time hiding. If Dorothy had surrendered She'd have wound up stuck in Oz. Amidst the flying monkeys And their sticky little paws. So stand up straight; You've got vertebrae, use 'em; Anticipate! You can pick and then choose 'em. And yawning in the cracks of An old forgetting place The song of dandelions And the changing of your face; It seems to me You've outgrown that sweater It seems to me You better try to forget it. Cause I've heard a lot of stories; Some of them were lies - Some of them had owls inside - Some were not so kind. So it seems to me Your circles are binding. It seems to me You've left everything crying. Well you're a long coming I almost turned my tail. I was racing for a cheetah, Not waiting on a snail. So it seems to me You've got something shiny; It could be dull Or it could be a diamond. And there was something really winning In the way you tied your shoe. And when you're on an airplane There's nothing much to do. So think of me Going in through the out door. It seems to be Your pocket's filled with A lot more.

Meet yourself halfway Heading for a deeper mirror Oh, true heart, false heart Please be more sincere. Oh, you brilliant fiend - You shine brightly. Just don't fall into disrepair Be sure to always comb your hair. Heading for a deeper mirror Meet yourself halfway Heading for a deeper mirror Meet yourself halfway. Meet yourself halfway Heading for a deeper mirror Oh, true heart, false heart Please be more sincere.

Wire Hair 04:22
Hair Like wire, so it's said: Hard to brush, hard to mend. Hard to brush, hard to mend. Wrapped up in a tangled tree. Stinging like an angry bee. Feet Like bricks Wire Hair can see Stomping around Stomping around Stomping around That brambled tree Won't take her very far And won't erase that scar. But flying through a starry sky Wire Hair's glad time passed by And looking down below She sees that's where their money goes. Hands Like clawed paws Are capable Of cutting down Of cutting down Of cutting down Like saws Felling brambled tree Setting Wire Hair free. But flying through a starry sky Wire Hair's glad time passed by And looking down below She sees that's where their money goes.

Now is the time To slither like the snake Upon the ground With belly down. Now is the time To wander like the camel through The desert dry. One hump or two One lump or two Avoiding mines. Now is the time To shiver like the fieldmouse in The barnhouse twine. Curling up Becoming small That way it won't hurt to fall. Now is the time To slither like the snake Upon the ground With belly down. Now is the time To wander like the camel through The desert dry. One hump or two One lump or two Avoiding mines. Now is the time To shiver like the fieldmouse in The barnhouse twine. Curling up Becoming small That way I can see it all.

Wanderer 06:38
Hush now darlin Don't you cry Don't you know most things they tell you Are really lies. Once I took a train Round this place Saw a white horse Headed for a red door. Hope your horse arrives work done Step, step lively Into the sun. Things are changing; Work to be done. Step, step lively - Into the sun. Sun is rising In the east I wake up and know That you have found peace.

Sometimes You feel like the fool of the world On his flying ship. The fool of the world Could not be turned back By callous words. Those boy-men. They're 25 in the morning, 45 in the afternoon. Those boy-men. They're 45 in the afternoon And old in the evening. Even Jonah fair Was swallowed by a whale And lost his way. Though it was dark in there He pulled up a chair And wiled the time away. Those boy-men. They're 25 in the morning, 45 in the afternoon. Those boy-men. They're 45 in the afternoon And old in the evening.

They sat there in their coats of fur on a Saturday The rain came down, slid on the glass and dripped tearfully away. They got out the atlas to see all the people they could be. Well, turtles they bask in the sun every day. When the weather's cold, they jump in the water, they sink away. They float to the bottom of the pond, Close their eyes humming a swan song. Lying on their backs Watching circling bats. All these riddled maps - It seems to be impossible. Ah, ah, ha ha, ah - And all the ferry rides are on Saturdays. They follow directions but the seagulls laugh They fly merrily away. They are charting the course of a changing time. Now the pennie's a nickel and the dollar's a dime. Lying on their backs Watching circling bats. All these riddled maps - It seems to be impossible. All these riddled maps will soon turn away. All these riddled maps will soon burn away.

Juniper Tree 03:59
Well I'm a bird now And I am flying And I will make my way to the sea. And I am gathering and collecting All the things that I see. And if you need me Then raise a red flag And I will see you Cause I am flying Flying from a juniper tree. Well I'm a bird now And I am flying And am making my way cross the sea. And I have gathered up and bundled up All the things that I need. And I will bring you all these treasures, Yes, all the gifts of the world. I am flying, Flying from a juniper tree. Well I"m a bird now And I am flying And I have made my way cross the sea. And I've brought you gifts And a wish For all the things that you need. And I've also brought the power That will release you. Yes, I am flying. Flying from a juniper tree. Ah - ha ha ha - ah ....

Well she's been walkin' Through the darkness Through these dingy streets Eating strange meat And she's been thinking That this reminds her Of something she's heard before Of something she couldn't ignore Because it saved him From all that sorrow From all that flyin' through a darkenin' sky Each day more time goes by And she's been thinking That this reminds her Of the good times That the sun shines That the moon climbs That the star shines too And if you want them You can find them Flyin' through the sliver of light Turning in the sliver of light And she is sitting There on that tree branch Sitting in a sliver of light A brand new sliver of light. Whoooooo - whoo wee hoo - whooo whooo .....

about

The Sliver of Light is a 14-song cycle of songs to be sung. Recorded in one day in February 2009, this edited live performance features fanciful story-song lyrics and multi-instrument midi & instrumental orchestration. Complex digital/analog layering creates a unique audio space. Think of it as a soundtrack.
